Rebuilt “West Country” Class Pacific No.34046 “Braunton” crosses the West of England main line at Cole, near Bruton, Somerset with the 10.35am (Saturdays only) service from Bournemouth to Manchester which took the S. & D.J.R. route over the Mendip Hills. Passing under the bridge can be seen former G.W.R. “2884” Class 2-8-0 No.3850 as it attacks the 1 in 98 gradient of Brewham Bank with a Banbury bound freight train. A scene from the summer of 1960.
